About the Play

Baal is a raw and chaotic portrait of a man consumed by desire, excess, and self-destruction.Written by Bertolt Brecht in 1918, the play follows the rise and collapse of Baal — a charismatic poet who rejects social morality and leaves destruction in his wake. This new adaptation reimagines Baal through a contemporary lens, exploring toxic masculinity, emotional detachment, and the romanticization of destructive behavior in modern society.Blending fragmented scenography, shifting materials, and surreal visual imagery, the production creates a world that slowly collapses alongside its central character.

Developed for Camden Fringe, this version of Baal brings Brecht’s unsettling work into conversation with the anxieties and excesses of the present day
